Letter About the Racism that Takes Place at USM

Hello, my name is Chris Garrett and I’m writing this to exploit the racism that takes place at University High School. It troubles me to even have to share my story knowing it occurred roughly 4 years ago and that racism is still an unsolved problem at this school. Back in 2018 I was a senior at the Milwaukee Academy of Science and I worked at the McDonalds in Mequon. I had a teacher named Kristin Frew who also lived out there and her son attended Homestead so her family was pretty known in the area.

One day at work a group of students came in and ordered some nuggets. However, we didn’t have enough for the order so I told them I’ll make some fresh ones and bring them out to their table. When the nuggets were gone, I brung them out to the table and that was the end of it. A few days later, my teacher Kristen pulled me to the side from class crying so I knew something was wrong. She told me while she was out to eat with a group of her friends, they showed her a picture and asked was I her student. She said one of the students snuck a picture of me after I gave them there food and captioned it “Nuggets from a nigger” she was crying so hard she could barely get it out. I was so surprised also when she said it because I never did anything to the students and was such a good worker. Ironically my stepdad was working on a construction project at the school at the same time also so he went to talk to the staff about it. Kristin did also and got the student expelled. She never showed me the picture because she knew how mad I was about the situation and sadly she passed a few years back. It was a major problem at the school though and since she was expelled I know it shouldn’t be hard to find it.
